I've just bought a pair of really really really light blue jeans, gonna team it with a big grey top, leather jacket, some gold chains and kaboom the outfit is made. I do want to slit some rips in them but i'm too scared to wreck them!

light blue jeans are wonderful. i think it's a good idea not to rip them up for a while..let them get worn in before you attempt a diy (of course, that could be my tendency to be overprotective about my clothes talking..)

Don't slash the jeans.
Just rub em over with a cheese grater.
They'll wear naturally and you can do it as much or as little as you want.
That way you'll have beautifully frayed jeans..
Vogue atm has a great tutorial on how to make jeans look fabulously worn. They start you off with Levis but I'm sure you can use yours. Wreck 'em with a cheese grater, splatter 'em with bleach, paint, dye, anything, make them beautiful.
